Northumbria Police crackdown on nuisance electric off-roaders seizing five bikes in five days

A string of nuisance electric motorcycles have been taken out of the hands of criminals and into the jaws of the police crusher, while their riders have been reported for a series of offences.
As part of the continued efforts of Operation Capio, Northumbria Police reported the seizure of five battery-powered machines across a five-day stretch in March, with these bikes having been ridden illegally in an anti-social manner in the Silksworth area of Sunderland.
Capio, launched in December 2023, is a force-wide initiative aimed at tackling anti-social motorcycle-related crime.

In the latest action, the taskforce teamed up with Sunderland City Council to respond to reports of two-wheeled disorder, seeing dedicated motorcycle crime officers carry out patrols to catch offenders in the act.

As well as the seizure of five bikes, the response led to two warnings being handed out for anti-social riding, along with two individuals reported for offences including careless driving and having no licence or insurance.
Four riders were issued with Acceptable Behaviour Agreements to curb their behaviour in the future, with information also gathered about other riders and vehicles potentially causing harm in the community.
