Lincs Blood Bikes boost distance covered in 2024 by 30% racking up a life-saving 180,000 miles

Lincolnshire Emergency Blood Bikes Service (LEBBS) have covered over 180,000 miles throughout 2024, delivering life-saving medication and transporting biological samples to support the NHS – that’s almost 60,000 miles more than the previous year.

LEBBS were able to increase their output thanks to an updated fleet, which was paid for by the generosity of corporate sponsors, grants and awards, plus public donations at collection events.

Among the many jobs carried out throughout the period, transporting new-born bloodspot tests was one that often fell to the volunteer run charity, with 358 of these important samples delivered to Sheffield Children’s Hospital by December 22.

That’s not all the group have been up to, and on the weekend before Christmas, LEBBS saw all their day shift riders and standby members out on the road conducting multiple jobs.

Included in the mix was a priority call to collect specialist medication from Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham, before delivering it to Boston Pilgrim Children’s Ward to assist in the urgent care of an eight-year-old boy.
