Three-time FIM Speedway Grand Prix world champion, Tai Woffinden has shared a video of himself up and walking in hospital, just days on from a serious racing accident in Poland on March 30 that left him in a medically induced coma.

Racing for Polish club Rzeszow, he collided with teammate Franciszek Majewski at the first turn, during heat seven. The pair’s bikes then locked together, before connecting with the outer air fencing – causing the meeting to be abandoned.

Woffinden, who is Britain’s most successful-ever speedway rider, shared a long list of injuries in the social media post – including a double compound fracture to the right femur, 12 broken ribs, and the loss of three litres of blood.

He also suffered a dislocated left shoulder, left broken shoulder blade, a punctured lung, a compound fracture of the right humorous, and more. He appears in the video assisted by his wife Faye.

“Hey guys, turns out my injuries and an induced coma ain’t no joke,” an earlier post read on Sunday, April 13. “I’m on the mend, but please bear with me for now. I just need a little more time to rest and gather my thoughts.

“Please know how much I appreciate everyone’s love and support from all over the world.”

Following the accident, support for Tai and his family began to flood in from speedway fans across the globe, as well as racing rivals, and stars from other motorcycling disciplines.

On top of his FIM titles, Woffinden is also a three-time British champion, double under-21 champion, and double under-18 series winner. In 2013, he also became the first speedway competitor to win the prestigious MCN Rider of the Year Award since its inception in 1958.  He then followed it up with another victory in 2014.
