Mother and daughter set to take on charity sidecar adventure riding Land’s End to John o’ Groats

A mother and daughter duo from Kent are planning to ride a motorcycle and sidecar outfit from Land’s End to John o’ Groats raising money for brain injury charity Headway.

Claire and Susie Colston will take to the road in April 2026, riding a 2021 Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 bolted to a 1969 Watsonian Squire sidecar borrowed from their friend Sylvie.

“We are riding in memory of my father who died of brain cancer, and a friend who sadly died of a brain haemorrhage. Both were only in their 50s,” Claire explained.

They are now hoping to find companies and sponsors ahead of the ride to provide motorcycle riding gear and accessories, as well as accommodation along the way – with the ride set to last between four and five days including overnight stops.

“I currently have a Honda Monkey bike. It’s so much fun! I love riding small bikes,” Claire continued. “My daughter Susie would love to ride the motorcycle and sidecar, but she doesn’t have a full licence yet.”

Headway is a UK-wide charity that aims to support people after experiencing a brain injury. Services include an emergency fund, and a freephone helpline, with a number of publications also produced to provide helpful information to those in need.

Sidecar rider Claire is no stranger to tackling big miles on two-wheels, having completed the North Coast 500 in Scotland on a Honda MD90 – a last mile delivery version of the Honda C90.
