BMW axe 2025 GS Trophy UK qualifier with no plans to send Brit team to the international competition

BMW have officially confirmed that the 2025 GS Trophy UK Qualifier will not be taking place, with additional Off Road Skills courses to be run instead.

Originally set to go ahead from September 5-8, a change to the structure of the 2026 International GS Trophy means that a UK team will not be included – meaning there is no need for a qualifying event this year.

A letter was sent out to UK customers already booked onto the weekend, which read: “Unfortunately BMW Motorrad UK are unable to send a team to the 2026 GS Trophy, therefore we will be taking a hiatus for 2025 and will look to run a GS Trophy qualifier should the option be available to us in the future.”

The UK weekender has traditionally been held within the 4000 acre off-road Walters Arena, Wales. It’s open to riders of all skill levels and takes in a range of on- and off-road challenges, as well as team building, navigation, and more.

Participants have been expected to ride their own bike on the tarmac, with off-road GSs then provided by the BMW-backed Off Road Skills team. The best then qualify for the International Trophy, with the 2024 event taking place in Namibia.

Those already booked on now have a choice of receiving a refund, or booking onto additional courses laid out over the weekend – including Level Two: Foundation and Level Two on September 5-6.

BMW UK have been running GS Trophy UK Qualifiers and GS Challenge events since 2010. At present, it’s unknown whether there will be other riding competitions available for UK riders attempting to gain a GS Trophy entry for next year.
