Bikers across the UK have been supporting their local Air Ambulance charities during a national week of fundraising.

Air Ambulance Week 2024 took place from September 9-15 and was run by national charity Air Ambulances UK.

There are 21 individual Air Ambulance charities in the UK, with a total 37 helicopters shared between them. All of them are funded by public donations.

Around 126 missions are attended every day of the year at an average cost of £4110, with the teams often providing critical care to motorcyclists. On average, each crew will arrive with the casualty within 16 minutes of a call.

This year’s campaign centred around the message of: “Today’s Supporter, Tomorrow’s Lifesaver” and focussed on the fact that anyone can become a patient at any time, and that by donating today, you could be helping someone tomorrow.

“Today’s Supporter, Tomorrow’s Lifesaver is an important reminder of the impact each of us can make,” Air Ambulances UK’s CEO, Simmy Akhtar said. “Every day, air ambulance charities are collectively dispatched to over 126 lifesaving missions and each mission is funded almost entirely by the generosity of our local communities.

“As we celebrate Air Ambulance Week 2024, we recognise the invaluable impact of the dedicated teams who bring prehospital emergency care to patients in their most vulnerable moments.

“Through your generosity, air ambulance charities continue to save lives and improve patient outcomes across the UK.”
