UK-based lightweight electric motorcycle brand, Maeving have been awarded the Simms Medal for ‘an outstanding contribution to motoring innovation’ by the Royal Automobile Club (RAC) in London.

The honour, which is named after RAC founder, Frederick Richard Simms, was presented to the company Co-Founder Seb Inglis-Jones on Tuesday, October 29 during a special ceremony at the prestigious Pall Mall venue.

“As a founder, you very rarely get the chance to sit back and look at the progress that’s made because you’re so stuck in the business end of making progress and driving that growth,” Inglis-Jones told MCN on the day of the ceremony.

“This is a huge privilege, and to rub shoulders with the likes of Ariel, and Williams, and to be right now sitting next to the team at Cosworth, it’s great to have the privilege of being recorded in history alongside names like that.

“The thing that really means a lot to me is the adjudicators, and the fact that these are old school petrol heads and long lovers of the automotive motoring world.”

Inglis-Jones founded Maeving alongside Will Stirrup in 2018, with the brand first coming to market with their low capacity RM1 retro. A more powerful 125-equivalent RM1S arrived for 2024 and later scooped an MCN Award for Best Urban Electric.

Since founding the business, the team has expanded rapidly and now sells into a variety of international markets, including the USA. Their current team of employees also includes Graeme Gilbert, former Head of Product at Triumph.

“Maeving’s achievement in designing and building an attractive and innovative electric motorcycle in the UK is a project that Frederick Simms would have been proud of,” Chairman of the judges, Ben Cussons said. “The business exudes the passion of its founders but has the financial backing and commercial nous that will help it achieve its ambitious aims.”
