Braking firm Brembo buy suspension brand Öhlins for €370 million

Italian braking specialists Brembo have announced the purchase of world-renowned suspension component firm Öhlins.

“Öhlins is a strong fit for Brembo,” Executive Chairman, Matteo Tiraboschi said. “We welcome Öhlins to our Group as a great opportunity to expand our offerings for the automotive market.

“With this addition, we take another step forward in our strategy to provide integrated intelligent solutions to our customers, leveraging synergies across key technologies in the vehicle’s corner.”

Brembo have purchased a 100% stake in the business, paying a hefty €370 million for the pleasure.

Öhlins employs around 500 people across two production sites in Sweden and Thailand, plus two research and development centres in the countries. Four distribution and testing facilities can also be found in the US, Germany, Thailand, and Sweden.

The announcement came on October 11, following an agreement with the Tenneco to sell the suspension company.

“As we join forces with Brembo, we are excited to unlock new growth opportunities and leverage our respective strengths and assets to drive innovation and deliver even greater value to our customers and employees,” CEO of Öhlins Racing, Tom Wittenschlaeger added.

This isn’t the first company Brembo have snapped up in recent years, having purchased braking specialists SBS Friction and J.Juan in 2021.

Brembo employs over 16,000 people across 15 countries, and reported a turnover of €3.849 billion in 2023.
