Watsonian-Squire reveal keenly priced sidecar outfit to make three-wheeled life more affordable

Watsonian-Squire have created a keenly priced motorcycle and sidecar combination in a bid to make three wheels more accessible.

Launched at Motorcycle Live, the SB1 outfit costs £7999 – although the British firm currently have a limited time offer on, slashing £500 from that price.

Watsonian Squire Managing Director Ben Matthews explains the thinking behind the new outfit: “Back in the 1980s Squire produced hundreds of sidecars for the importers of budget Jawa and MZ motorcycles. This created fantastic economies of scale and made sidecars an affordable option for thousands of riders.

“We still get enquiries from customers looking to buy a complete outfit ‘off-the-shelf’ and so we decided to create a modern equivalent under the Squire brand, to differentiate it from our bespoke Watsonian range”.

With the goal of keeping the overall package affordable, Watsonian opted to use a Benelli Imperiale 400 to power the outfit – costing just £3699 as a solo machine. However, they add that its air-cooled 374cc motor is perfectly sufficient to pull the extra weight of the hack.

The sidecar itself features a powder coated tubular steel frame, rubber torsion suspension and a 10-inch steel wheel, with the bodywork constructed from GRP fibreglass, with a cost saving GRP wind deflector called upon, rather than a full windscreen.

The chassis is pre-set for toe-in, lean-out and axle-lead on the Benelli, which means it can be detached and reattached by the owner, following basic instructions supplied with the outfit.
