‘I thought it was a wind-up!’ | MCN Compare competition winner bags brand new Suzuki GSX-8S

One lucky MCN reader has managed to bag himself a brand-new Suzuki GSX-8S – completely free of charge, all by simply carrying out an insurance quote with MCN Compare.

Devon based locksmith Chris Davison won the competition after signing up whilst quote hunting for his current bikes.

“I got a call from a withheld number, normally I’d leave it, but I was expecting a call from the bank that day so answered by chance. Safe to say I’m glad I picked up the phone!” Chris recalled. “When I got the news, I thought it was a windup or even a scam at first. I’ve never won anything in my life. I’m over the moon.”

After collecting his new machine on Friday May 10, Chris explained how he managed a short ride before bad weather put a close to play. “So far, I’m impressed,” he said. “It’s got a great engine and is super easy to ride.”

With this maiden voyage out the way, Chris told MCN that he’ll be keeping the Suzuki, at least for a short while, especially as he’s something of a fan of the brand, having previously owned four bikes from the Japanese manufacturer.

“My first bike was a 1976 Suzuki GT125 twin, swiftly followed by a GSX250 and I’m currently restoring a 1979 GT250 X7, so I do have some Suzuki history,” Chris explained.

With a Ducati Monster 1200 in the garage as well, Chris has no shortage of bikes to ride. Even so he says he plans to use the GSX-8S for ride outs with his local group, despite the power deficit to his usual Ducati.

“These days I’m looking to go backwards in terms of power anyway,” Chris said. “With 145bhp it’s easy to go too fast. Smaller bikes are just more fun to me now. It’s nice to be able to wring its neck a bit and still be under the speed limit.”

On top of this, the middleweight Suzuki may be just the weapon of choice for a planned trip to Chris’ hometown of Scarborough that he’ll be undertaking later in June.

With plans to tackle the twisting Oliver’s Mount course – at legal speeds, Chris expects the Suzuki will be perfect for the job, especially as it was crowned last year’s MCN ‘Naked Bike of the Year.’

MCN Compare are currently running a similar competition to win a brand-new Yamaha MT-09, which will be drawn later this year. If you fancy the chance to bag yourself the sporty sub-litre naked, head to mcncompare.com and carry out a quote now.
