Stuntman Jonny Davies sets date and location for high speed Kawasaki H2 SX skiing record attempt

Stunt rider Jonny Davies has announced the date and location for when he intends to break the world record for ‘Fastest speed being dragged behind a motorcycle.’

Already a two-time Guinness World Record holder for his spectacular two-wheeled stunts, he will attempt to add to his tally of accolades using a supercharged Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX, which has been modified to include a secondary throttle to the rear.

Skating on special titanium boots, the record attempt will take place at Elvington Airfield on Sunday, August 18 – running as part of the Ultimate Supercar event taking place that day.

Advanced entry tickets are available now, with a number of large screens set to broadcast the record from within the venue.

“The event looks mega for it,” an enthusiastic Davies told MCN. “I was open minded at first and looking for alternative venues because I was worried that the area of good surface might not be long enough. However, the bike reaches the speed much earlier than I thought, so I can shut off earlier.”

The bike in question is Kawasaki’s supercharged 998cc Ninja H2 SX sports tourer, which has been provided by the UK arm of the manufacturer and produces a claimed 197.3bhp at 11,000rpm.

“The bike is very stable, and it seems the faster you go, the straighter it goes,” Davies added – also going by the name JD Stunts. “The bumps in the tarmac effect your vision more, and your feet vibrate like hell.”

JD went on to say that his metal shoes can reach about 80 degrees during a run and that he now has six practice runs behind the bike under his belt – achieving 117mph during testing.

“The key is just levelling up in increments so I’m not getting overwhelmed by the speed,” he continued. “I’m landing on the floor at 50mph now and I’m hoping to land at 60mph and then get going on the gas.”

Before each run, Jonny practices getting on and off the bike by placing the Kawasaki on its centre stand.

“I’ve visualised that airstrip about 1000 times in my head,” he continued. “It’s exciting and motivating that I’ve got a date, but it all boils down to nothing else. I’ve got everything I need now – the weather is the only thing that could get in the way.”

The current record stands at 156.3mph and was set by Liverpool-based stunt rider Gary Rothwell on April 18, 1999, aboard a Suzuki Hayabusa. For more on the event, visit ultimatesupercar.co.uk now.
