Bodywork specialists Puig launch radical Pista kit for BMW's R1300GS adventure bike

Bodywork specialists Puig have given the BMW R1300GS a racy makeover, adorning the 143bhp adventure tourer with athletic new bodywork and smaller 17-inch wheels – transforming it from rugged globetrotter to track orientated pseudo-sportsbike

Dubbed the ‘Pista’ (Italian for track), the radically reimagined machine appears to take inspiration from the likes of other big-bore supermoto sports tourers, including KTM’s 890 SMT, or even BMW’s own S1000XR and M1000XR models.

The tricked-up GS was displayed at the recent EICMA trade show in Milan sporting Rotobox carbon wheels – shod with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa rubber. It also featured beefier 320mm front brake discs courtesy of Galfer and an Arrow exhaust system for some extra bark.

However, while those bolt on goodies are available directly from other manufacturers, the Pista kit itself remains in a concept stage, with prices yet to be made available.

That hasn’t stopped Puig releasing details of the individual parts, though. Starting at the front, the Spanish firm have ditched the standard windscreen in favour of a revised unit which, given the brand’s expertise with such items, should reduce turbulent airflow to the rider.

There are also side mounted deflectors which can be opened or closed to increase or decrease leg protection from the elements.

It’s not all about comfort though, as Puig have also fitted brake cooling ducts to funnel fresh air into the twin front brake calipers. The Bavarian boxer twin hasn’t escaped the aero trend either, gaining a pair of downforce increasing winglets.

There’s no data available regarding the effectiveness of these, but the manufacturer says anti-wheelie properties are heightened, as is high speed braking stability – although that could also be down to the altered wheel set-up.

That’s not all and the kit also includes a revised mudguard (to accommodate the smaller front wheel and tyre), tank cover, rear cowl, pillion seat cover, belly pan and lower spoiler.
