Humberside Police’s Op Yellowfin taskforce have made arrests in Scunthorpe, detaining a 20-year-old man, and seizing a firearm during an operation in partnership with the National Police Air Service.

“We continue to work hard to tackle motorcycle related crime and remain committed to making our communities safer,” Detective Inspector Simon Archer said. “Operation Yellowfin provides us with information and intelligence that helps us bring offenders to justice. We do not take these crimes lightly.”

The arrest of the man took place on Monday, October 16, after officers responded to reports of two people acting suspiciously on a motorcycle.

Using back-up from the air service team, the force searched the area – locating and arresting the man and a 12-year-old boy. A gun was seized at the same time.

Both were arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm without a licence. The man was further arrested on suspicion of theft of motor vehicle, with both later released on police bail.

Op Yellowfin was set up to help tackle nuisance motorbikes across the force’s patch. It is reported to have had a large impact in East Yorkshire and North Lincs, recovering hundreds of stolen and abandoned machines, offering advice to owners on protecting their bikes, talking to local communities, and more.

Anyone with further information on this incident should contact 101 quoting log 263 of October 16.

Elsewhere, Humberside officers apprehended two suspects after a motorcycle was stolen in York on Wednesday, October 11.

A 41-year-old male was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance. He appeared at Hull Magistrates Court later in the month.

The second, a 27-year-old man, also attended Hull Magistrates Court, charged with riding on a motorcycle taken without the owners’ consent.
