GlobeBusters returns with Trans American adventure

Epic motorcycle adventure tour company, GlobeBusters are getting back into the swing of things after years of Covid difficulty, with a sell-out 22,000-mile adventure from Alaska to Patagonia.

Founded in 2002 by double motorcycle Guinness World Record holders Kevin and Julia Sanders, the latest tour will last for 142 days and kicked off on Thursday, July 20. Priced at £37,995 per person, the ride will snake through 12 countries from the very top to the very bottom of the Americas.

“We were able to run a shorter expedition in Africa in September and October 2022, but only just,” the pair told MCN. “The Trans Americas is by far the longest trip we operate, and we had to cancel it twice during the pandemic.

“There was so much pent-up demand for this route, so we set 2023 for the year to bring it back and that coincided with the 20th anniversary of our Fastest Trans Americas by Motorcycle Guinness World Record, so it felt the right time to do it.”

During the Covid-19 pandemic, planning and running events of this kind proved incredibly difficult – putting a strain on the business.

“Within weeks we had to take the decision to cancel Trans Americas 2020 and that was hugely significant for us financially,” they continued. “The rest of 2020 and 2021 just became a rolling succession of cancellations, refunds and putting out new dates for tours, which then also ended up being cancelled.

“We still had to work despite the fact that there was no money coming in. Our customers really appreciated how we dealt with them, but the reality was that every month money was leaking out of the business, and nothing was coming in.”

During this time, just two tours could be run in Iceland, but now the team are bouncing back – with the latest ride taking everything from the skyscrapers of North America, to tropical rainforests, and even dry desert conditions.

“Temperatures can range from below freezing and snow to 45-degree heat in Las Vegas,” the pair added. “You’ll be riding up to over 4500 metres high in the Andes, facing the wet seasons in Central America and chaotic big cities in South America like Lima and Bogota.

“Everything is more extreme and unpredictable on such a long journey and riders have to be prepared to cope with the various discomforts and challenges that, by comparison, a two-week tour around Europe would not throw at you. We get all the riders together six months before the trip for a pre-expedition briefing that lasts for two days.”
