Get out and do stuff: Adventure grant set up in memory of popular two-wheeled explorer

Organisers of the upcoming Armchair Adventure Festival have set up a grant in memory of long-time supporter David Martin, helping riders who want to pursue an adventure outside of their comfort zone, and live for the moment.

Dave, who died last year, was an adventure biker who rode the length of the UK, across the USA, and up to Norway while fighting bowel cancer, coining the hashtag #GetOutDoStuff.

Dave went through 100 rounds of chemotherapy and fought to add years on to his life. He lived in a cycle of one week of chemo and then one week of adventure and living life.

Founders of the festival, Matt Bishop and Reece Gilkes, AKA The Sidecar Guys, described Dave as “a true inspiration” and hope to enable and inspire lots more people to #GetOutDoStuff.

Matt said: “In his memory we’ve set up this grant to help people make the most of their time here and we hope that in doing so you can carry Dave’s mantra forward and inspire more people to #GetOutDoStuff!”

The amount of the grant will be determined by funds raised at this year’s festival which takes place in Cornwall between 27-30 July, and by a JustGiving page (search #GetOutDoStuff) where donations up to 1 August will be tripled thanks to match funding from the Change Your World Fund and corporate sponsors.

Applications for adventures will take place between August 1 and December 31 with the chosen rider being announced in January 2024.
