Adventure and naked bikes lead the charge in promising 2023 industry sales figures

November sales statistics released by the Motorcycle Industry Association (MCIA) have shown registrations are on the up in many categories, compared with 2022.

In year-to-date figures, bikes categorised as ‘Adventure’, ‘Competition’, ‘Custom’, ‘Naked’, ‘Road Sport’, and ‘Unspecified’ are all in the green – with 102,361 new motorcycles registered across 2023 so far.

The biggest performing segment is that of naked bikes, up by 6.9% compared to this time last year, and representing 24,004 sales so far.

Year-to-date figures only tell half the story though, with sales for November alone down in all but two categories, compared to the same month in 2022.

Both scooter and adventure sales are up, although segments like ‘Modern Classic’ – so that’s retro bikes – are down, representing 23.2% fewer registrations.

Sticking with monthly figures, electric motorcycles equal to or less than 47bhp netted a massive 300% uplift in November. However, this simply meant four sales, compared to one last year.
