Honda launches UK new rider scheme to get more into biking - who do you know how should read this?!

Honda have become the latest major manufacturer to offer a complete rider training package, in an attempt to get more people learning to ride in 2024.

The revamped ‘Honda School of Motoring – New Rider Programme’ aims to provide everything you need to get on two wheels – including a bike, training, test, safety kit and servicing – in one manageable package costing just shy of £134 a month on PCP.

A range of rider levels are offered, from a Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) starter, to a full A licence, to a returnee refresher, all via Honda’s network of approved training schools.

The offer is also available across most of Honda’s range with the exceptions of the CBR1000RR-R Fireblade superbike and GL1800 Gold Wing (not that you’d want either of those as a novice, anyway).

A typical example can be found online based on Honda’s new midrange CB750 Hornet twin. Following a deposit of £1643.55, it’s available for £89 per month across a three-year PCP deal.

From there, £1400-worth of training, test and kit is available for £44.83 extra – a total cost of £133.83 a month and likely far more manageable for many would-be riders.

From here, there’s only the bike’s final balloon payment of £3837.86 to pay should you wish to keep it at the end of three years.

To help make the cost even more manageable, anyone who passes a step up course – such as A2 to full a – via the Honda School of Motorcycling will also get £500 towards a new bike.

Alongside Honda, BMW also offer their ‘Rookie to Rider’ programme, with Kawasaki also offering training-only schemes for customers.
