Honda to celebrate 30 years of the Fireblade at Donington Park BSB

Honda are planning a special weekend for their customers and fans at Donington Park on the weekend of May 20-22 to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Fireblade.

The original bike, the CBR900RR, changed the sports bike landscape and rewrote what it meant to be a bike within that category – being lightweight, but with plenty of power. Now, at round three of the 2022 Bennetts British Superbike Championship, the Japanese manufacturer has an entire weekend of fun events planned to celebrate its 30th birthday.

Firstly, all Fireblade and Honda riders will receive a 20% discount on the price of admission to Donington Park, as well as exclusive parking at the Melbourne Loop. Bikerpics will be on the surrounding roads taking picture of Honda riders heading into the circuit, with riders then able to download their shots for free on the Bikerpics website.

Fireblade owners will then have the chance to:

  • Ride around the Donington Park circuit between 18:00 and 20:00 on the Saturday evening.
  • Complete a parade lap with Isle of Man TT Legend, and 2022 Honda rider, John McGuinness on Saturday, and Sunday lunchtime (200-bike limit, must be a road legal Fireblade).
  • Meet and chat with Honda Racing UK’s BSB riders across the weekend – Glenn Irwin, Tom Neave, Ryo Mizuno, and Takumi Takahashi.
  • Win exclusive prizes.

Alongside the Honda/Fireblade only events, all BSB fans will have access to a range of Honda activities and presentations throughout the weekend. This includes:

  • Honda Heritage Fireblade display.
  • Honda Heritage Race Bike Display, including the rare RC213V-S road-going MotoGP bike, the Castrol Honda VTR1000 SP1, and replicas of race bikes ridden by Joey Dunlop, Alex Lowes and Ryuichi Kiyonari.
  • Dual Clutch Transmission rolling road.
  • The Steve Colley Trials Experience Show
  • The range of 2022 Honda models, including the NT1100, CRF1100L Africa Twin and CB1000R.
  • Dave Thorpe Adventure and Off-Road Centre bookings

Heading into this weekend’s BSB round at Oulton Park, the Honda Racing UK team leads the championship thanks to Irwin’s hat-trick at Silverstone two weeks’ ago. He holds a 29-point lead over Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha’s Kyle Ryde, with Rory Skinner a further four points adrift in third.

Silverstone Honda Fireblade celebration set to take place on May 1

A Fireblade meet-up will take place at Silverstone on May 1

A group of Honda Fireblade enthusiasts are organising a meet up to celebrate the model reaching its 30th milestone. Even though it feels like yesterday, the Fireblade was released way back in 1992 and has taken home god knows how many race wins, championships, hearts and minds along the way.

To celebrate this, a Fireblade group have teamed up to bring at least two of every vintage to the Silverstone Museum on Sunday, May 1, at 1pm for all to see.

“One of the guys in the Fireblade Owners Group, Alex Butcher was keen to get everyone together to celebrate the anniversary of the bike,” says group member Aaron Umney. “Alex managed to get the ball rolling and a few of us have helped him out.

“I’ve always been a Honda fan and I’ve had Fireblades for years,” he continued. “Now Honda have come on board with it now and they’re going to bring along one of the 30th Anniversary machines.

“It’s totally free to attend and anyone is welcome to come down whatever bike they’re on. We’ve had loads of interest from other owners’ groups who want to see all the generations of bike lined up. There’s even plans for an informal little ride out afterwards.”
