Video: Teenager sentenced after footage found on helmet cam

A teenager has been banned from driving for 15 months after police found footage on his helmet cam of him speeding.

Dennis Kuzmenok, 19, of Kent Road, Southampton was involved in a crash in the city which led to police seizing his helmet cam in November.

When officers reviewed the footage, they found evidence of Kuzmenok hitting speeds of 105mph along Thomas Lewis Way (a 40mph limit) and 120mph along the M3.

The video shows slightly higher speeds, but the court was advised that speedos could be inaccurate by up to 8%.

Kuzmenok was banned from driving for 15 months with an extended retest and was ordered to do 50 hours unpaid work after a two-day trial at Southampton Crown Court.

“This shocking footage clearly shows just how dangerous his riding was,” PC Richard Miell of the Joint Roads Policing Unit said after sentencing.

“Travelling at high speeds on any roads is incredibly reckless, but to do it on Thomas Lewis Way and the M3, two major roads with heavy traffic, showed total disregard for others and put not only his life at risk but the lives of other innocent road users.”
