A Lincolnshire village pub has arranged a charity night in aid of injured road racer Ivan Lintin.

The Nags Head, in Bardney, has been supporting Ivan in his racing efforts for the last decade, after the current landlords, Glen and Carol Stothard, moved to the village 12 years ago.

Bardney-based Lintin, who has taken victories at both the Isle of Man TT and North West 200, was left fighting for his life after an accident during the 600cc Challenge race at the Southern 100 earlier this year, in which fellow rider James Cowton was tragically killed.

The event, which will take place on Friday 10 August from 5pm, will include a raffle in aid of Lintin’s family expenses during his recovery process, as well as live music from the band Evolution. There will also be a complimentary buffet and barbeque and donations will also be accepted on the night.

Due to the area’s close connection to road racing, various stars from the past and present, such as Steve Plater and Dave Hewson have also come together and donated a number of items for an auction on the night.

This includes various limited edition prints, signed caps and knee sliders and special bottles of whiskey, courtesy of the Joey Dunlop Foundation.

MCN spoke to Glen Stothard, 58, on the Saturday before the event, who said: “Ivan has supported us over the years and he always used to pop in for a lasagne before every meeting – he loves our lasagnes.

‘We thought we’d give something back’

“His family has always supported us so we thought we’d give something back to him as a way to say thank you for his custom,” Glen said.

“We used to go to Scarborough to see him race in the early days when it was all done out the back of a van.

“Everybody’s got behind it and people are ringing up and asking what can they do and how can they help. There’s a lot of people connected to road racing around here and they’ve rallied around and helped us and it looks like it’s going to be a massive event.

“We will do our best to cope! Even today, we have been given another seven or eight signed pictures to auction off.”

If you would like to donate, the couple have also set-up at Just Giving page, which is accessible through the pub’s Facebook page, with the aim of raising £10,000 for Ivan’s family.
