deBolex do the business, again

We caught up with deBolex Engineering mastermind Calum Pryce-Tidd at The Bike Shed show the other day to find out just what’s been brewing in his workshop, besides of course the recent Buell XB9 that was rolled out a few weeks ago.

Smack bang in the heart of the Tobacco Dock venue, he was found displaying the Buell, but also a new build too…

So, what have we here?

“Triumph Thruxton R”

And what have you done to it?

“Pulled it back to just the engine and frame then just rebuilt all the panels.

“We didn’t want to mess with the geometry too much so kept the frame and engine as they were. We’ve uprated the internals with Maxton forks, Maxton rear shocks, dressed the wheels up a bit and given it big Brembo brakes.

“Once we’ve got a good rolling chassis with good uprated components, for us it’s about dressing the bike with new bodywork. So we made a new custom-made fairing, aluminium fuel tank, bellypan, radiator, custom seat and tail unit and a custom exhaust.”

So how long did it all take?

“Just over 4 months I think. But it’s not quite done yet. We’ve got to wire the whole thing up with a new ECU. We’ll be probably another month on that, but it’s going to be a really trick loom. It’ll have a quickshifter on it, and different maps as well, so although it’ll look good, it’ll go as well too.” 

Have you got any other bikes on the go at the moment?

“We’ve currently got a Ducati Scrambler and an XJR1300 in the workshop.”

And how have you found the Bike Shed Show?

“It’s been good; really busy and really hot, but it’s wicked. There’s such a variation of stuff here. We’re locked in our cave of a workshop for months on end, so to get out and actually remind ourselves what all this is all about and why we’re whacking these bits of metal for days on end is kinda good. And then, to step back and look at the bikes as part of the big picture and see what we’ve been up to is cool, it’s good and has a nice atmosphere.”
