Snow Quake II: Frozen racetracks & bikes on studded tyres

1 of 47

Remember Dirt Quake? The one where a bunch of nutters on a motley collection of Harleys, peds and everything in between flat-track around the King’s Lynn Stars speedway track… and it’s oh-so-good.

Now there’s Snow Quake, the winter spin-off, where much the same thing happens but in temperatures of -10°C, on an ice track with gradients, and rights as well as lefts. What grip there is, is provided by metal studs screwed into tyres.

TOP STORIES

The second edition of Snow Quake, held on the Ice Rosa Ring, in Riva Valdobbia in the Italian Alps, featured classes for ‘Inappropriate’ road bikes – think Harleys and Vespas – ‘Vintage’, which is packed with old enduros, and ‘Racer’, for flat track racing dirt bikes.

The rules are simple: no ice-racing style spikes, and no modern motocross machines. Easy… well, sort off.
