Great rides of the North: Part 2

1 of 1

As recommended by MCN’s #ride5000miles members, we’ve got six of the best roads to ride in the North of Britain this week.

Number two road to ride is the Welsh wonder below, yesterday’s route was from Skye to Invergarry, through Northern Scotland. You can also check out the start of our great rides of the South here.

A483 from Crossgates to Newtown, nominated by Dan Summers

Dan says, “Britain’s best road has got to be the A483 from Crossgates to Newtown in Wales! There’s a lovely mix of tight bits and open sweepers and the surface is track-like too!”

Length:

22 miles

Love it because:

A winding wonder, this gem of a road offers riders the perfect opportunity for a challenging road ride. Being so short, riders can simply turn around at the end and enjoy it all over again!

Take a picture at:

Surrounded by luscious Welsh greenery, stop off in the safety of a layby to grab a picture of your bike with a nice natural backdrop.

Stop for a cuppa at:

Head to the New Inn. Just off the road, the pub and restaurant offers food and drink in an idyllic, relaxing setting.

A major road between two towns, watch out for traffic on your ride.

Best bike for the job:

A twisty countryside blast? It’s gotta be Sportsbike country.
