The Cymru Knievels ride again for Macmillan

1 of 2

For a 6th consecutive year the roads of Wales will come alive to the spectacle of hoards of Evel Kneivel lookalikes taking part in the annual Ride Cymru charity event.

Founded by Jason Lewis, of Coedpoeth, north Wales, the event follows the 1070-mile navigable roadway perimeter of Wales over five consecutive days of riding. Each day riders will cover a little over 200 miles on routes that follows a complex mix of back lanes, B-roads and A-roads.

Entrants must raise a minimum of £20 per day, or £100 to enter the full five-day event by raising sponsorship or making an entry donation on the event’s charity fundraising site. Riders also get the added benefit of a few laps at Llandow, Pembrey and Anglesey Circuits – all of which form part of the route.

For the third year in a row, riders area again encouraged to wear fancy dress costume in the style of motorcycle stunt legend Evel Knievel. This nascent tradition even has the blessing of Evel Kneivel’s daughter, Alicia Knievel-Vincent, who said: “I think it’s a real honour for my dad’s legacy to be part of such a fun event for charity. He would be very proud! I hope I can come over and ride with the Cymru Knievels one year.” David Hailwood, the son of Mike ‘The Bike’ Hailwood, is also taking part in RIDE Cymru 2017.
