Barry Sheene personal pictures released to the world

For the first time, the family of Barry Sheene have agreed to open up their personal archive of pictures, some of which are to be printed in the new book Barry Sheene: The Official Photographic Celebration of the Legendary Motorcycle Champion.

Sheene is arguably the greatest British motorcyclist of all time, clinching two 500cc world championship titles in 1976 and 1977. With victory at the Swedish Grand Prix in 1981, Sheene remained the last British rider to win a premier class Grand Prix until Cal Crutchlow’s victory at Brno in 2016, 35 years later.

The book features 120 previously unseen photographs of the two-time champion, giving a unique insight into the much loved racer. The book is written by award-winning Times journalist Rick Broadbent, with the foreword by Barry’s son Freddie.

Available from from May 4, this extraordinary galleryesque book coincides with the 40th anniversary of Sheene’s second world championship in 1977.
