A new petition has been launched calling for extra protection for Britain’s vanishing green lanes.

The petition is calling for legislation to be introduced that will stop local authorities and local council highway authorities closing unsurfaced roads and byways that are open to motor vehicles without a similar route or facility being provided in their place.

It’s gathering a fair amount of support too for a relatively small campaign with both Cal Crutchlow and Carl Fogarty so far promoting the campaign through their Twitter accounts. 

The argument for the petition is that the number of usable legal routes has been reduced to a critically low number, which is resulting in the illegal use of unsuitable lanes without vehicle status.
