Remembering Sheene

1 of 20

Thirteen years ago today, motorcycling lost one of its most enigmatic and colourful characters. Barry Sheene at the age of only 52 when he sadly lost his battle to cancer, he would have been 65 today.

He is remembered for his unforgettable battles with Kenny Roberts in the 1970’s and his two 500cc world championships in ’76 and ’77. He was also famously the last Brit to take a premier class world title before Danny Kent’s historic Moto3 championship win last year.

He was more than just a championship-winning racer; he was an energetic personality, known as much for his exploits off the track. He was a lovable character and is the reason why many people today got into biking in the first place.

He was and still is a hero to many; long may he rest in peace.
