And then you come across Wooler, a firm which lasted from 1911 to 1956.

It was a time during which highlights included bikes powered by a two-stroke horizontal single-cylinder with a double-ended piston, and a 500cc transverse four shaft drive beam engine.


Both featured distinctive headlights faired in with the fuel tanks, and the latter a frame which doubled as the exhaust pipe. Watch the charming Pathé clip below and wonder…
