The turbo that started it all
Updated: 20 November 2014
As Kawasaki again explores the use of superchargers on motorcycles, we take a look at the bike that started it all – the CX500 – and find the lone example for sale on MCN Bikes for Sale.
The CX500 Turbo was introduced by Honda in 1982 as a rolling showcase for their latest technology, which as well as a turbo included digital ignition, EFI, Prolink monoshock suspension and TRAC antidive fork.
The 82bhp was a substantial boost over the 50bhp of the standard CX500, but Honda priced themselves out of the market, selling the Turbo at £3350 – 50% more than their own 95bhp CB900F.
The sole CX500 Turbo for sale on MCN has covered 26,438 miles, so it’s seen a bit of use but it’s in good nick for its age and comes with a full 12 month MOT.
