Norton Superior proves superior

Shed-brewed big twin special wins Classic Bike of the Year crown

Bill Higginson¹s special, a beautiful combination of 1000cc Matchless V-twin and rigid Norton frame, has scooped the biggest prize in classic motorcycling ­ the Classic Bike of the Year crown. You¹ve been voting since the ten finalists were announced in the January issue, and when phone and online votes were added to those cast at the recent MCN London Motorcycle Show, Bill¹s bike was a clear winner.

Bill couldn¹t be at the show to accept his cheque ­ the lucky bugger was on holiday, riding a BMW in South Africa ­ but expressed his delight over the phone. “I’m chuffed to bits to have won. A huge thank you to everyone who voted for my bike, and to my friend Maurice Cross who built the engine.”

Ken Bell’s stunning 1961 Norton Dominator 99 claimed second place, while
Dave Orritt¹s bolt-perfect 1973 Kawasaki Z1 took third.
