Men banned from Silverstone

Ladies looking for a testosterone-free track day might want to put October the 3rd in their diary, when Silverstone is holding its first ever women-only sessions at the iconic Northamptonshire circuit.

Giving ladies a chance to improve their riding skills on track, the sessions are open to riders of all abilities, with expert tuition on hand throughout to ensure that you get the most from the day. Silverstone does also offer sessions for track day novices that are open to both sexes, and there are two other groups also available on the day, where both men and women can participate. The ‘Street Sport 1’ sessions are intended for first-timers and novices, whereas ‘Street Sport 2’ is for more experienced riders who want to further hone their skills.

All three sessions cost £129, which includes lunch, refreshments and access to mechanic, suspension and tyre services. The day comprises seven track sessions, each lasting for 15 minutes.

Isle of Man TT regular Maria Costello will also be on hand to instruct the lady’s sessions on the day. Costello’s riding credentials are impressive – she held a Guinness World Record for the fastest TT lap by a woman at 114.73mph, and was the first woman ever to score a TT podium when she took third place in the Ultra Lightweight category of the 2005 Manx GP.
