Staff blog: How much?

I got a shock when I saw the price of new standard rear tyre for the Burgman 650 ABS Executive from a Suzuki dealer: £184 plus £30 for fitting.

 

The first one has just been replaced during the 4000 mile service, which costs £135. So that’s a total of £349.

 

I do 800 miles a week commuting to and from London. I’m already thinking about booking the 7500 mile service, in four weeks’ time. By then both tyres will need replacing.

 

There’s not much I can do about the short service intervals but it should be possible to save money by not getting the Bridgestone Battlax tyres from a Suzuki dealer, or by trying to find a longer-lasting alternative. I’ve got no complaints about grip but who can afford £214 for a rear tyre every month?
