New 90s superbike race series launched

The new Retrosport Cup has just confirmed its inaugural four hour race at Donington’s GP circuit on Bank Holiday Monday May 7th.

Modern classic superbikes such as early Blades, GSX-Rs and ZXRs are now available for relatively little money and the Retrosport Cup is hoping to attract up to 45 teams.

The one day event is centred around a four hour race with at least one hour of combined practice and qualifying for as many as three riders per team.

Broadly, bikes from 1990 to 2002 are eligible (more specific regulations are available from www.retrosportcup.co.uk).

The event itself is simple; one race, one bike per team, choose from three classes, two or three riders, four hours.

Tyre warmers, big tanks, and stints over 55 minutes are banned and you’re limited to one set of road-legal tyres. The idea is that the simple rules will keep costs down.
ACU licences for this event can be obtained on the day for £10.
