Insurance error fixed

An error by insurance companies which stopped Suzuki GSX-R1000 owners getting factually correct policies is to be rectified after we highlighted it.

MCN revealed how insurers and comparison websites insist the bike is 998cc when in fact it is either 988cc or 999cc depending on year of manufacture. Riders who give the correct capacity are charged more for having a ‘modified’ bike.

The error came to light when an MCN reader got a quote from the AA, but broker MCE has said it will rectify the problem on behalf of all insurers.

A spokeswoman said: “In response to MCN’s article, we have done some research to understand why this is happening.

“Firstly, on behalf of the insurance companies, we put our hands up – the client is right.”

She said the problem stemmed from a database shared by insurers. “Our team will now raise the error so that all insurer files are updated,” she added.
