150mph YouTube speeder escapes jail

A motorcyclist who filmed himself speeding at 150mph and posted the footage online has been given a suspended jail sentence and five-year ban.

Robert Mark Owens, 48, from Milton Keynes, used a helmet-mounted camera to film himself doing high-seed wheelies through traffic on his Kawasaki ZX-6R in April.

The footage on YouTube, shot in Milton Keynes, also shows him mounting the pavement.

Owens admitted dangerous driving at Aylesbury Crown Court and was sentenced to 51 weeks’ jail suspended for two years.

He was also ordered to do 150 hours of community work, given 10 points on his licence and had his bike and camera confiscated.

PC Steve Roebuck said: “This was amongst the worst examples of dangerous driving I have seen during my time as a police officer, and the fact Owens willingly put himself and others in such danger almost beggars belief.

“It is a miracle he survived many of the situations he put himself in and to upload this footage on to a social networking site to boast about what he had done is abhorrent.”
