Help motorcycling and win a £10,000 bike!

1 of 2

MCN is offering readers the chance to win fabulous prizes including bikes worth £10,000 and £5000 while helping to protect motorcycling’s future.

We’ve relaunched our MCN 1000 campaign which, together with the bike industry’s excellent Get On initiative, aims to get more bikers on the road. To take part, and win a guaranteed prize, you need to persuade someone to take a free ride provided by Get On and then do their Compulsory Basic Training.

You’ll automatically receive three stylish and comfortable Oxford Comfy neck tubes from leading accessory supplier Oxford Products, plus a chance to win our £10,000 top prize. There’s a second prize worth £5000 for one new biker and 20 runner-up prizes worth £500. See below for full details.

Our aim is to introduce 1000 people to the life-affirming pleasures of motorcycling and push Get On towards its goal of 35,000 new bikers.

Recently released bike test figures show the need for action. Only 90,000 riding tests were completed in the two years to April 30 2011, down from 196,000 in the preceding 24 months. The numbers plummeted following the introduction of a controversial new bike test in April 2009.

New government data reveals the impact is beginning to be seen in the number of riders on the road.  Motorcycle traffic fell by 9% between 2009 and 2010 according to the Department for Transport.

Steve Kenward, CEO of the Motorcycle Industry Association, said: “It’s vital that we work together to generate the riders of the future. Only by increasing our numbers will we become secure and visible to an extent that we cannot be ignored when governments are considering future transport policy.”

What you could win
• £5000 voucher for one new rider to spend on a new bike and kit. Throw in £150 of your own and you could get the new BMW G650GS
• £10,000 voucher for the person who recruited the winning new rider. It could be a Suzuki GSX-R750 (£9625) and a new lid.
• 20 £500 vouchers for runners-up. The vouchers can be spent with any of the supporters of the Get On campaign, including all the major bike manufacturers except Ducati and Triumph, and a hoard of top quality accessory, kit and insurance retailers. Basically, you choose the bike and kit you want, let the Get On team know and they’ll do the rest. Find more details on Get On at www.geton.co.uk
• Every reader to recruit a new biker will also be sent a guaranteed prize of a pack of three stylish and comfortable Oxford Comfy neck tubes from leading accessory supplier Oxford Products.

How to enter
1.
Extol the virtues of motorcycling to a friend or relative. Get them to do a free supervised try-out on a bike at a training centre near you. This is part of the excellent Get On campaign from the MCIA, and everything from instruction to kit is provided free. The scheme is even offering the chance to win iPods – in addition to prizes detailed here. Find details at www.geton.co.uk

2. Now get your friend or relative to take their CBT (Compulsory Basic Training – see motorcyclenews.com/newrider or geton.co.uk for help).

3. Send a photograph of them holding their CBT certificate to alison.silcox@motorcyclenews.com. Make sure the date on the certificate is visible. Include in your email the full name, address and phone number of both yourself and your new rider, along with their Get On user name, date and place of free ride. Entries which don’t include these details will not be eligible for prizes. Remember the photo must be of someone you encouraged to take up biking – it can’t be yourself.

4. Check the post for your guaranteed pack of three Oxford Comfy neck tubes. Once we’ve reached our goal of 1000 new bikers, we’ll randomly choose one new rider and the reader who recruited them to win a £5000 and £10,000 voucher respectively. Another 20 participants will get a £500 voucher each. Keep checking MCN for updates.
