North Wales Police appeals for calm

North Wales Police is appealing for motorcyclists to ride responsibly after two were clocked at over 140mph.

The pair were among several riders caught at over 100mph in August, according to the force.

In March, the region’s new chief constable, Mark Polin, a biker, announced an end to the force’s practice of randomly pulling over hundreds of motorcyclists every weekend, including many who had committed no offence.

The practice was scrapped in favour of an ‘intelligence led approach’ focussing on offenders.

It came after 10,000 MCN readers descended on the region in our Reclaim North Wales Rally.

Now sources at the force say there is a threat of a return to the old tactics, with thousands of law-abiding motorcyclists paying for the actions of a small number of serious offenders.

Polin, who has a Suzuki GZX-R750, said: “We are appealing to riders to take greater care on the roads of North Wales.

“Safe, responsible, legal riders who have due care for their own safety and that of other road users are welcome, but we will not accept anyone riding in a reckless, dangerous or unlawful manner.”
