Last chance to enter this year's Moto Giro Italia

1 of 3

Entries for the 2010 Moto Giro Italia close next Wednesday. Places are still available in all classes and also on the bike transport truck from the UK so if you’d like to take part in one of the world’s greatest motorcycling events you need to act now!

Run over five days through the glorious north Italian countryside, the Giro follows the format of ‘ability trials’ popular in the 1950s. The classic event is open to small capacity machines from the 50s and 60s plus there’s a tourist class for modern machines of any capacity.

A timed road rally rather than a race, the aim is to complete each days riding (up to 290kms) in a prescribed time without incurring any penalties on the way. Penalties are given for missing checkpoints, arriving late or getting lost. Along the way special stages include slow riding and tight slalom courses.

Now in its tenth year, the 2010 route begins over the border in Monte Carlo and winds its way to Turin, Italy’s historic home of motoring. Split into four classes any motorcycle is eligible, though to taste the true MotoGiro spirit (and compete in the trials) you’ll need a small capacity motorcycle (under 175cc) made before 1958. A full list of the qualifying classes can be found here www.motogiroditalia.com/en/classi.html

It costs €1300 (£1135) to compete in the Moto Giro Italia but accommodation, breakfast, dinner, luggage transport, mechanical assistance and limited breakdown cover is included in the price. Official MotoGiro bike transport from the UK to the Monte Carlo start-line costs an additional £320 return
(07711 047748, chris.bushell@motogiro.co.uk), riders fly out and back via Nice.
