Motorcycle casualties down

Motorcycle casualties fell 4% in the 12 months to the end of September last year, according to figures from the Department for Transport.

All casualties for motorcyclists fell from 21,934 in the previous 12 months to 21,080.
Fatal and serious motorcycle casualties also fell by 4%, from 6185 to 5920, according to the latest Road Casualties Great Britain report.  

Pedestrian and car casualties fell by 6% and 5% respectively, while cycle casualties rose 4%.  

Compared to the average for 1994-1998, motorcycle casualties are down 12%.
