Red Rats Ride Out

1 of 1

On 25 May members of 2 Close Support Battalion REME, part of 7 Armoured Brigade (More commonly know as the Desert Rats) will be starting out on a charity ride out to Italy.

The round trip is planned to take ten days and uses the more interesting roads rather than the Autobahns and conveniently places the riders in a camp site just a short ride away from Mugello over the weekend of the Moto GP.

All the riders spent last summer on operations in Afghanistan and Iraq so had very little time on two wheels as they returned from the blistering heat to find snow on the ground at home. To ensure that all involved are able to complete the trip safely the Unit has organised for the riders to attend a Ride Safe Advanced Motorcycle Course prior to their departure and is supplying a support crew of mechanics with a trailer just in case.

The event is raising money for the Royal British Legion and Adaptive Skiing who provide facilities to teach amputees’ to ski on modified equipment, helping them to realise that the loss of limbs shouldn’t stop them from enjoying life. Equipment has been donated that will be sold to the highest bidder at a charity auction night on 15 May and we would like to thank all those who responded positively to the scrounging letter.

We owe a special thanks to KTM (UK) and NGK for the parcels that they sent and the negligee that Suzie Perry sent has now been framed and is gathering a great deal of interest. Should anyone wish to donate any further items or get further information they can do so by emailing WO2 Del Longstaff on 2REME-7Armd-CSM@mod.uk
