Biker to become living monument

A motorcyclist hopes to sit astride her Harley-Davidson as she becomes a living monument on a plinth in London‘s Trafalgar Square.

Lynne Scotten is one of 2400 people chosen to occupy the square’s Fourth Plinth for one hour each in Antony Gormley’s 100-day art project.

She is waiting for a decision on whether she can take her supercharged 1550cc Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide Sport FXDX with her for her turn on August 31 from 5am to 6am.

Lynne, 50, from Northampton, says on her blog: “I want to use my hour on the Fourth Plinth to try to reflect my personality as a proud biker.”

She told MCN: “I don’t know yet if I can take a real bike up there but I hope to get a replica if I can’t.

“I’m waiting for the organisers to get back to me,” she added.

Trafalgar Square’s Fourth Plinth, sometimes referred to as the empty plinth, was built in 1841 for an equestrian statue which was never added due to a lack of funding. Since 1998 it has been used to display art.

Gormley’s project runs until October 14 with live streaming of the plinth at www.oneandother.co.uk

A second biker due to take the plinth next week says she is considering using her time to provide the public with a lesson entitled ‘Learn to ride a motorcycle in just one hour’.
