The time to act is NOW- No to the bike parking tax!

The time for actual direct action has never been more prevalent. On 18th February 2009, Westminster City Council will enter a brief consultation period to decide whether to make this bike-parking tax permanent. WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!

We ask you you to show your support by doing a number of things, which will aid in getting this bike parking charge abolished.

1) OBJECT: Get all your family and friends to complete and post an official “Objection” letter. Should you find expressing your “reasons” difficult, some templated examples are available on our site details here, this applies to every one of you, even if you are based outside London this parking tax will spread to the rest of the UK and beyond. FYI, WCC Officials were heard gloating that they have only received 138 of these so far. Not surprising when you consider that they firstly DON’T accept emails as official objections, and that they took down the notices telling potential objectors where to send their letters. Having unsubtly drawn this to their attention, they have conceded to re-affix the notices to the street-poles, read the new notice here. WRITE NOW, RIGHT NOW.

2) SIGN THE DOWNING STREET PETITION: The petition is located here: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/bikeparkingfees/

3) PROTEST: This link is a copy of the letter we sent to Mr Cameron asking whether this sort of stealth tax is to be expected from a Tory Government. We are going to end our demo on 15th January (demo route and more details for the day here) at Tory Party HQ to hear Mr Cameron’s response. You wouldn’t want to miss that, would you? PREPARE TO BE THERE!

4) PROTEST AGAIN: If they ain’t got the message, on Sunday 1st February, and to avoid you lot excusing yourselves from mid-week protests, we are planning a MASSIVE ride-out in conjunction with/and starting from the Ace Cafe, coming through Westminster en route to the MCN ExCel Bike Show 2009, details of this demo to be published soon, make sure that day is free. PREPARE TO BE THERE!

5) Get leafleting, download leaflets for the upcoming demo on the 15th January and generic campaign media direct from our website (downloads here), print out. SPREAD THE WORD.
