Car driver's illegal parking angers motorcycle lobby

An article was published in today’s (6/02/09) West End Extra, the article is on the back of an incident that happened last month [view full details of it here], a campaigner took photos of cars parked in China Town car park motorcycle only bays, not one space was left for a motorcycle or scooter, yet Westminster are charging for this service, or non-service as the reality is. “This shows clear disregard for motorcyclists and scooterists even though they [Westminster Council] are now taxing us more than ever. It goes to show that even when they claim to be making improvements all they are interested in is the cash in their bank accounts, there is no proof on the ground. They are driving a positive, lest congestive, less pollutant mode of transport out of London.” In Westminster’s defence, since the incident, improvements have started to take place at China Town car park, and cars have stopped parking in the motorcycle bays, but this has only happened 5 months after the experimental parking charge scheme was introduced. The West End Extra is a Westminster local newspaper that is delivered to every home in Westminster. Councillors do read it, this article will just be another thorn in their side, scrap the parking charge and provide more free and plentiful, secure on-street motorcycle parking facilities.
