Harley-Davidson invades India

Harley-Davidson is to begin selling bikes in India – the world’s second largest motorcycle market.

The ailing American company is looking to sell its heavyweight bikes to the country’s emerging middle class.

But it is unlikely to have an easy ride as Indian’s traditionally favour small, inexpensive bikes.

“Given the rapid development of India’s economy and physical infrastructure, this is exactly the right time to bring the world’s greatest motorcycles to one of the world’s largest motorcycling nations,” said Matt Levatich, Harley’s chief operating officer, in a statement.

Harley has established a subsidiary near to Delhi and now looking for dealers.
