Britain’s bikers snub SHARP ratings

1 of 5

The three top-rated helmets in Britain’s biggest biking survey are all lids that haven’t yet been tested under the government’s controversial SHARP rating scheme.

The Schuberth R1 topped the RiDER Power 2008 poll with an 86.07 satisfaction rating, followed by the Schuberth S1 and the BMW SportIntegral.

Fourth place, however, went to the Shark RSR-2, which scored five out of five in the SHARP tests.

But the Arai Viper GT, which got a surprise thee-star SHARP rating, actually improved its RiDER Power result – up from 13th last year to sixth in this year’s poll.

RiDER Power Top rated helmets

1st- Schuberth R1

2nd- Schuberth S1

3rd- BMW SportIntegral

4th- Shark RSR-2

The results suggest Britain’s bikers don’t yet put much weight on the SHARP results, and would rather trust their own judgement. The RiDER Power survey involved more than 7000 bikers, who clock up an average of 7634 miles a year.

For the full results of the RiDER Power survey, see the November issue of RiDE magazine, on sale Wednesday Nov 15th.
