It's All About The Money!

It seems that nowadays you don’t even have to be doing anything wrong to get pulled by the police. Riding out of Sherburn on a wednesday night,off the roundabout onto 60mph ring road,accelerate up to 65mph maximum.

One mile later and I am being pulled over.The officer comes charging in with ‘do you think it’s a good idea to go charging off away from your friends with a traffic car on the roundabout? What you on about I replied I did’nt go no more than 65 and that was to overtake a car,I dropped down to 55 mph behind a van so we could regroup for next junction.

So no law broken whats next? Aha! he starts looking round the bike and to cut a long story short I get a long lecture & a £30 fixed penalty for my exhaust end can.

Did I do anything to initiate the reason to be stopped? No Did I break the law? No Was the reason for stopping me relevant to the fine (ie is my exhaust noisy?) No

Apparently,and this came from the traffic officer,the police in North Yorkshire are targeting illegal exhausts this year,they did number plates last year.

Forget what you have read about police discretion and relaxing the law on plates & cans it’s bullsh***

The sun is out & so is the legal cash cow . .Kerr..ching! Yes I could stick a legal can & plate on my bike or I could sell it,buy a tin can crappy car,fill it with speakers,private reg it and move letters so they are virtually illegible,slap a booming exhaust on it & cruise the streets making as much noise as I like because I know and you know I ain’t gonna get nicked.
