RAC says get on a motorcycle and cut carbon emissions

Motoring organisation the RAC says that more people switching to motorcycles could help the Government to achieve its Co2 targets.

So far the Government is falling behind its own target to cut carbon emissions, which was aimed at a 12.5% reduction by 2010-11 compared to levels in 1999-2000.

But so far only a reduction of four per cent has been made up to the end of 2007, which according to the Environmental Audit Commission is ‘very poor progress’.

Sheila Rainger, Head of Campaigns at the RAC, said: “We are not seeing enough being done to promote people moving to motorcycles.

“We try to point out the benefits of people using bikes. Commuters save time as motorcycles get there in half the time. They produce less Co2 and reduce congestion as they move through traffic.

“The more motorcycles and scooters there are the more drivers get used to looking out for them so it will also become safer.”
