Highways Agency’s wind warning for bikers
Updated: 19 November 2014
The Highways Agency is warning motorcyclists to take extra care in high winds and rain over the course of tonight and tomorrow (January 9/10).
Gale-force and severe gale-force winds are expected across England, northern England in particular. The wind is to be accompanied by rain according to the Met Office, and the highest trans-Pennine routes could see some snow.
The Highways Agency says bikers need to take care in areas exposed to the wind – open stretches of road, passing bridges and tall vehicles. Grip will also be at minimum, and the Agency is on standby ready to issue a Red Alert, where HGVs will be stopped in safe rest areas to reduce the chances of incidents on the road.
