Globetrotting mechanics decade on the road

When 2009 arrives a Yorkshire mechanic will be begin his tenth year travelling the world on his Honda Africa Twin.

Ian Coates, from Hebden Bridge, left Britain in search of adventure in 1999 and apart from the odd week here or there has not been home since.

He has visited 60 countries so far and extensively toured Australia and New Zealand, Africa, Latin America, Europe and North America – and had plenty of drama along the way as revealed in the Christmas Eve edition of MCN.
