100 per cent import tariff on European motorcycles in US

The US is considering imposing a massive 100% import tariff on European bikes – although it will only apply to those under 500cc.

If imposed, it would result in the doubling of the price in the US of bikes, particularly off-roaders, made by the likes of Aprilia, KTM, BMW, Husqvarna, GasGas and more.

The proposal is in retaliation to an EU ban on US beef products made from growth-hormone treated cattle.

The American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) has reacted strongly to the proposal and has written to the US Trade Department to voice its objection. It’s not yet known when a final decision will be made.
